What is a free student place?

You may apply for a free student place at Pirkan opisto. A free student place holder does not have to pay the tuition fee. The applicant will not receive a reimbursement via bank transfer to cover the tuition fee, but the tuition fee invoice will be credited.

Who is eligible for a free student place?

A free student place can be granted for basic education in the arts to children and young people of mandatory school age for one term or academic year at a time.

Free student places are primarily granted on financial grounds, upon a discretionary and case-by-case basis.

How and when can you apply for a free student place?

You may apply for a free student place at any time with an electronic form, the link to which is available at the bottom of this page. Applications for a free student place are submitted by the student’s legal guardian. You may apply for a free student place at any point during the year, but we do not accept applications for retrospective consideration.

Please describe the financial grounds for the need for a free student place on the application form.

You should attach a document to the application that confirms the low-income status. The document may be, for example, a Kela decision on social assistance/income support or a statement by a social services office concerning your low-income status. Free student places are offered based on the definition of a low-income household.

2. If you wish for the student to start as a free student in January, i.e. at the start of the spring term, you must apply for the free student place by the end of November. Decisions regarding free student places for the spring term are made in December.
